About Temperature Converter (°C, °F, K)

Temperature scales differ in their zero point and step size. Celsius is anchored to water's phase changes, Fahrenheit was historically calibrated against brine, and Kelvin starts at absolute zero — the lowest possible temperature.

Frequently asked questions

What formula is used?
K = °C + 273.15, °F = °C × 9/5 + 32, °R = (°C + 273.15) × 9/5.
What is absolute zero?
0 K = -273.15 °C = -459.67 °F. The tool warns when an input goes below absolute zero.
Why does Fahrenheit have such odd numbers?
Daniel Fahrenheit calibrated 0°F to a brine freezing point and 96°F to body temperature, later refined to the 32/212 water reference points used today.
